TCM herbs: the safety notes you actually need

中药安全:你真正需要的注意事项

The herb section of this site runs to 322 entries. The most important thing on every one of them is not the property — it is the safety note. Here is why.

Herbs are medicines

In the traditional system, herbs are a materia medica with recorded actions and recorded cautions. They interact with prescription drugs. The reason this site deliberately does not list doses is simple: doses are set by a licensed practitioner for a specific person, not pulled from a reference.

Drug interactions

Standard pharmacovigilance literature records interactions between several common botanicals and prescription drugs (blood thinners, some heart and diabetes medications among them). If you take anything regularly, that conversation belongs with your pharmacist or doctor, not a website.

What 'we don't prescribe' means

It means this is a reference, not a prescription. The handbook and the one-to-one Q&A explain the tradition; neither tells you what to take or how much.

Our Self-Help Handbook ($14) puts the same material in reading order — 60+ pages on concepts, acupoint self-care, and seasonal living, with a China-travel health checklist. Or ask a real researcher your specific question in a one-to-one written Q&A ($69).

Common questions

Q: Can I self-dose from the herb entries?

No. Doses are set by a licensed practitioner. The entries are reference, not prescription.

Q: Do herbs interact with my medications?

Some do. Discuss any botanical with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you take blood thinners or heart medication.

Q: Why aren't doses listed?

Because dose is a clinical decision for a specific person, not reference data.
