Morinda officinalis How (root)

Nature and flavour. Acrid and sweet, slightly warm; Liver and Kidney systems.

Classed as supplementing Kidney yang, as strengthening the sinews and bones, and as dispelling wind-damp. Traditional use covers the cold presentations of the lower body — cold pain in the lower abdomen and loins, and the aching and weakness described in the classical sources. It is regarded as milder than several of the other yang-tonifying herbs, and as combining a tonic action with a wind-damp action.

Classical category · no formulas, no dosages, no herb-drug combinations are given.
Safety. Warming and yang-tonifying, so the tradition cautions against it where there is Yin deficiency with heat, or where ministerial fire is exuberant. It is not a herb to try on your own, and safety in pregnancy is not established.
