Earthworm dì lóng · 地龙

Pheretima spp. (also Lumbricus spp.)

Nature and flavour. Salty; cold; Liver, Spleen and Bladder systems.

The dried body of the earthworm. The classical descriptions cover heat with convulsion, obstructed channels with joint pain and numbness, wheezing, and scanty urine. The material traded as 广地龙 and 沪地龙 comes from different species and different regions.

Classical category · no formulas, no dosages, no herb-drug combinations are given.
Safety. An animal product, so allergy is possible. Earthworms concentrate whatever is in the soil they lived in, so heavy-metal and pesticide residue in untested material is a genuine risk and sourcing matters more than for plant drugs. Classical sources list it as contraindicated in pregnancy and in weakness with cold in the Spleen and Stomach. Not a self-care herb.
