Safety. The first thing to state is what this formula is not: it is a postpartum formula in traditional use, and it is not for use during pregnancy. 桃仁 and 川芎 are blood-moving herbs, and blood-moving herbs are traditionally avoided in pregnancy for straightforward reasons. - The clinical trap around a postpartum formula is that the symptoms it is taken for overlap with obstetric emergencies. Heavy bleeding, a uterus that is not involuting, fever, foul lochia, or severe pain can mean retained products of conception, infection, or haemorrhage, and each of those needs hands-on assessment, not a decoction. Using a traditional remedy through that kind of bleeding is a documented way women come to harm later than they should have. - 桃仁 (persica seed) contains amygdalin, a cyanogenic glycoside: in sufficient quantity it releases cyanide, and bitter-almond/persica-type poisoning is a real, if uncommon, presentation. It is also related botanically to peach and apricot, so allergy in that group is relevant. - 当归 carries case-report-level reports of potentiating warfarin and raising INR; the evidence is not from controlled trials, but the interaction is commonly flagged and deserves mentioning to anyone on anticoagulants. - 甘草 (licorice) has a well-documented profile: it can raise blood pressure, cause potassium loss, and thereby potentiate digoxin and interact with potassium-losing diuretics; chronic high intake is the setting in which this shows up. - 炮姜 is warming by traditional description, so the formula sits badly with a presentation that is genuinely hot or inflammatory. - The formula is used very widely and near-routinely after delivery in parts of China. That is a fact about practice, not evidence of effect: whether it changes anything measurable about recovery has not been established by controlled trials, and the honest answer here is that it is unproven. - Not for self-administration. Amounts are set by a licensed practitioner and are deliberately not given here.
