Safety. Two cautions. The pharmacologically important one: the leaf is documented to contain cardiac-glycoside-type constituents and to have digitalis-like activity, so combining it with digoxin or other cardiac glycosides, or with diuretics that lower potassium, is a real concern rather than a theoretical one — low potassium increases glycoside toxicity. The second: it is traditionally described as slightly toxic, and the tradition itself cautions against it where the Spleen and Stomach are cold and weak and in pregnancy. Human safety data in breastfeeding are insufficient. Not for self-directed use, and never a substitute for prescribed blood-pressure treatment: stopping prescribed medication because an herb tea is being taken is a well-recognised way to come to harm.
