Oyster Shell mǔ lì ·

Ostrea gigas (shell)

Nature and flavour. Salty and astringent, slightly cold; Liver, Kidney and Gallbladder systems.

The shell is the medicine, not the flesh: classically described as settling yang, calming the spirit and softening hardness.

Classical category · no formulas, no dosages, no herb-drug combinations are given.
Safety. The shell carries a genuine contamination concern, because oysters concentrate heavy metals and, in some waters, algal toxins. Sourcing and processing are a real food-safety issue rather than a side effect of the herb itself.
