Damp-draining; strangury-relieving

Chinese Pink (Fringed Pink) Herb qú mài ·

Dianthi Herba (Dianthus superbus L. / Dianthus chinensis L.)

Nature and flavour. Bitter, cold; Heart, Small Intestine and Bladder systems.

Classically described as promoting urination and relieving strangury, and separately as moving blood and unblocking menstruation. That second action is why the traditional texts treat it as a herb for both urinary difficulty and amenorrhoea, and why it carries a stronger set of cautions than the milder damp-draining herbs.

Classical category · no formulas, no dosages, no herb-drug combinations are given.
Safety. Chinese materia medica texts list this herb as contraindicated in pregnancy — that caution reflects its traditional blood-moving action and should be taken seriously. Cold in nature; classically avoided where the Spleen and Stomach are weak and cold, and in the absence of damp-heat. Avoid in breastfeeding; reliable human safety data are lacking. Urinary symptoms with blood, fever or back pain require medical assessment rather than self-treatment.
