Corydalis yanhusuo

Nature and flavour. Acrid and bitter, warm; Liver and Spleen systems.

The best-known pain herb within the blood-moving group. It is described as moving both blood and qi, and classical sources treat it as a general-purpose herb for pain. Its alkaloid chemistry has been studied in the laboratory, but a reliable clinical benefit in people has not been established.

Classical category · no formulas, no dosages, no herb-drug combinations are given.
Safety. Contains active alkaloids including tetrahydropalmatine. Published case reports describe liver injury, and drowsiness is described. Traditionally avoided in pregnancy. This is not a herb to try on yourself, and it is a poor choice without professional advice if you already take sedating medication.
