Dalbergia Heartwood jiàng xiāng · 降香

Dalbergia odorifera (Dalbergiae Odoriferae Lignum)

Nature and flavour. Acrid and warm; Liver and Spleen systems.

Traditionally described for transforming stasis and stopping bleeding, and for moving qi to ease pain. Recorded for blood in the vomit, nosebleed and bleeding from traumatic injury, and for oppressive pain in the chest and flank; the powdered wood is also applied directly to wounded surfaces in classical external practice.

性味归经。辛，温；归肝、脾经。

传统记载用于化瘀止血、理气止痛；古籍用于吐血、衄血、外伤出血，以及胸胁疼痛；亦有研末直接撒敷创面的传统外用记载。

Classical category · no formulas, no dosages, no herb-drug combinations are given.
Safety. Bleeding of any kind should be medically assessed first, and using this is not a reason to delay that assessment. Classically avoided where there is yin deficiency with heat, or a full pulse together with constipation. Not advisable in pregnancy without professional guidance. One identification caution: the same name is also used in the timber and incense trades, this entry refers only to the medicinal material, and the two are not interchangeable.
