Safety. State the oncology question plainly: this herb is commonly used alongside conventional cancer treatment in China, and laboratory studies on its extracts exist, but clinical evidence that it changes outcomes in people is not established. It is not an alternative to surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or any prescribed treatment, and it should not be added to an oncology regimen without telling the oncologist — herb–drug interactions and effects on liver enzymes are unresolved. Avoid in pregnancy (it is traditionally contraindicated) and in breastfeeding. Cold and bitter: people with weak digestion or loose stools often tolerate it poorly. As with all wild-collected herbs, identity and contaminants depend on the supplier.
