Location. Inside the mouth, on the upper surface of the tongue, at the midpoint of the median groove of the tongue.

The name means gathering spring, an image of fluid collecting, and it is one of the very few points located inside the mouth on the tongue itself. It is a point outside the fourteen channels. Later literature discusses the point in the context of the tongue and of speech, and classical sources describe moxa applied over a slice of ginger or, in some accounts, pricking to draw a drop of blood; both are procedures, not things a reader should attempt on themselves. The classical record is thin, the reported effects are not established by modern research, and this entry makes no claim of benefit.
