Location. On the outer side of the ankle, at the tip of the lateral malleolus.

The name mirrors the inner one: the tip of the outer ankle bone. It is a point outside the fourteen channels, named for the landmark it occupies. Sources differ on whether the site is the very tip of the bone or the small hollow just below and behind it, so the location should be read as the region around the outer ankle bone rather than one exact point. Classical writing records moxa at bony points of this kind more often than needling, and discusses them in the context of the foot and ankle. The classical record is thinner than for the channel points around the outer ankle such as BL60 or GB40, its reported effects are not established by modern research, and this entry makes no claim of benefit.
