Location. In the mouth, on the floor of the mouth, on the sublingual vein to the left of the frenulum of the tongue; the point is taken with the mouth open and the tip of the tongue raised to the palate.
The name pairs jin, gold, with jin, fluid: a precious fluid, that is, the saliva that collects under the tongue. Together with Yuye (EX-HN13) on the other side of the frenulum it forms a pair, and the two are always recorded together. This entry follows the common textbook assignment, with Jinjin on the left and Yuye on the right. It is a point outside the fourteen channels, and it is one of very few points whose recorded site is a vein rather than a hollow or a bone. Classical sources record pricking the vein to release a drop of blood, and later literature discusses the pair in the context of the tongue, of speech and of the mouth. The classical record is thin, the reported effects are not established by modern research, and this entry makes no claim of benefit.
