Neihuaijian nèi huái jiān ·

Location. On the inner side of the ankle, at the tip of the medial malleolus.

The name is a description of the landmark itself: the tip of the inner ankle bone. It is a point outside the fourteen channels, and it is one of a small group of extra points named after bony prominences rather than after a function or a channel. The malleoli are landmarks that readers can find on themselves without any instruction, which is why these points are easy to locate and also easy to misunderstand as ordinary channel points; they are not, and the classical record for them is thinner than for KI6 or SP6, which lie in the same neighbourhood. Classical writing records moxa at such bony points more often than needling, and discusses them in the context of the foot and ankle. Its reported effects are not established by modern research and this entry makes no claim of benefit.

Classical record · not a treatment recommendation. Needling technique is a licensed practitioner's skill and is out of scope here.
The point is on the bare tip of the ankle bone, where there is almost no tissue between skin and bone and where tendons, a vein and a nerve pass close by. Moxa here carries a real burn risk and a burn over bone heals badly, so this is not a place for holding a moxa stick or for self-needling. Gentle pressure or rubbing around the ankle is what a reader can safely try. Do not press hard on the bone tip itself, and stop if there is tingling, numbness, or swelling around the ankle.
